Dr. Elana Jakel received her PhD in Russian/ Soviet History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is currently the Program Manager of the Initiative for the Study of Ukrainian Jewry in The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Jakel received a Fulbright Fellowship to conduct research in Ukraine, an IREX Individual Advanced Research Opportunities Program award to support research in Russia, and a Charles H. Revson Foundation Fellowship to conduct dissertation research. Her language skills include Russian, Ukrainian, and Yiddish.
