Over the past two months, popular public demonstrations in Kyiv, Ukraine have placed in sharp relief the difficult alternatives facing this newly independent post-Soviet Republic. Will Ukraine’s dependence on Russian oil and gas force it to subordinate itself to Vladimir Putin’s new Customs Union, or will Ukraine turn to the West, and embrace closer ties with the European Union? Four ASU specialists on Eastern Europe and Eurasia gather for this roundtable discussion devoted to the future of modern Ukraine.
