COACHES AND GUIDES
The Bali program makes heavy use of language coaches and activity guides. Coaches and guides work with students in small groups outside of class time to practice conversational skills, to explore the city, and to complete classroom-related extramural assignments.
In addition to 4 hours of day of language class, students and their Indonesian activity partners participate in at least 3 hours a week of extracurricular activities, including but not limited to: "survival skills" exercises (buying food, negotiating cab rides, asking for directions, etc.), visits to historic sites, and hands-on activities, including Indonesian martial arts, southeast Asian culinary classes, batik painting lessons, etc.
Students enjoy one free weekend; and one major out-of-town excursion, in Indonesia, with their activity partners.
Denpasar is the capital of Bali. With a population of 500,000, Denpasar is a modern city with a distinctly Balinese vibe. The city is known for Pasar Badung, its largest traditional market; for its Art Center, the site of the annual Bali Art Festival; and for its Performing Arts School. Denpasar is a city of monuments and statues, the best known of which is Bajra Sandhi, the monument of peace. Denpasar provides easy access to the places of intest in Bali, and it is only 30 minutes from Ngurah Rai International Asirport.
