Welcome to the CLI application instructions page. Here we will walk you through the process of using our application system.
Begin your application by clicking your choice of link below. The link will open in a new window. You will want to keep this window with the instructions open while completing your application in the other window. Beneath this table you will see the initial steps. Click on each step for detailed instructions.
Get login credentials for the application software. If you are an ASU student, simply use your current ASURite login.
If you are not currently enrolled at ASU, you will need to use an e-mail address as your login credential. To do that, select the bottom radio button
and then hit the Submit.
Note: you do NOT need to apply to ASU in these initial stages. Once you have been accepted into the CLI program, you can go through the process of applying to ASU.
Step 2: Give initial data
Give initial data for the application software. At first it will look like this:
Fill in the requested data. When your choose your state/territory or country under Choose Institution, an additional selection box will appear. Select your home institution there. If you are not currently a student, choose the institution you most recently attended.
Then click the Create Account button. A pop-up box will appear. Click OK. In a very short time you will receive an e-mail with your temporary password.
Step 3: Re-login
Re-login using the email you received.
If you are an ASU student, click the link to the right of ASURITE users, login here. You will be sent to a standard ASU login page. Log in and go to step 4
If you are not yet an ASU student, click the link to the right of General non-ASURITE login. This time you will want to select the middle radio button and then hit submit.
A new page will open. Fill in your username and temporary password and hit the Loginbutton.
Step 4: Security Questions

Step 5: Choose new password

Step 7: Mobile number & Passphrase

If you are a not yet an ASU student, there is another bit of security involved, which is a special passphraseyou will sometimes need to enter. This is a completely different thing than your normal password. In the HomeInstitution field select Other.
In the Passphrase field enter: Sparky. Once you have entered the passphrase into the field, click Save.
A pop-up box will appear. Click OK.
Step 8: Main screen
Look over your main screen. Notice the Messagessection in the lower right. Every time you log in to the application site, check to see whether there are any new messages that affect your application.
To return to your main screen, just click My Home on the far left menu, under Applicant.
Step 9: Start application
Start your application by clicking the CLI link under Summer 2018. This link is where you will access all the questionaires, settings and status updates for your application. The link you actually see may indicate the language and location of your study.
Step 10: Online Forms & Submissions
Look over the main application page. On the right you will see My Online Forms & Submissions. This is the area where you enter information relevant to your program application and scholarship applications. Keep your eyes open here for additional information requests as they appear. When you fill out a subsection, you can save it and come back to it later. Once you hit Submitinside a subsection, you can no longer change the information there and a checkmark will appear next to that section in the Receivedcolumn. That's how the staff will know that a section is ready for review. We will now walk you through filling out one of those sections, and then the rest will be obvious to you.
Step 11: Preliminary Application
Open the CLI - Preliminary application by clicking on that link from the My Online Forms & Submissions area.
Fill out the requested information:
In section 1 select the main study program you are interested in.
In section 2 select any other languages you would consider studying this summer. (This is in case your primary program choice fills up or in case other funding options appear that might be of interest to you.)
In section 3 enter your CLI statement of purpose, which describes the personal, academic and career goals that have lead you to apply to CLI. It's best to type this up in a text editor on your computer and then copy and paste the information into the space provided. Be sure to save a copy on your computer. You may want to use it as the basis of your statements of purpose for various funding applications.
In section 4 select where you heard about CLI.
If you need to quit before you are done, simply hit the Save button and you can come back to finish it later.
If you click the Submit button, you will not be able to go back to change the information, and the CLI staff will know the information is ready for examination. After you click Submit, a pop-up will appear. Click OK if you are confident the information is now complete
Step 12: Submission & Help
To submit your application, complete the remaining items under My Online Forms & Submissions, Resources, and My Signature Documents to complete your application.
