Migration Trends in Post-Soviet Central Asia: Implications for Economic Development and National Security
Elena Zimovina is an associate professor in the Department of Archeology, Ethnology, and Native History at Buketov Karaganda State University in Karaganda, Kazakhstan.
Professor Zimovina defended her dissertation, “Social-Demographic Processes in zones of ecological calamity (1959-1999),” at Buketov Karaganda State University in 2001. Her field of scientific interest is the demographic and migration processes in Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries.
Zimovina’s most recent publication is “Kazakhstan in the System of Migration Interactions among Central Asian Countries” (Vestnik Karagandinskogo Universiteta, 2010, No. 1). She currently is serving as an Open Society Institute Fellow and is a member of the European Society of Central Asian Studies (ESCAS).
